Membership

We have made some changes to the way we manage membership this year. Head to the section about this at the bottom of this page if you want to understand what has changed, and what information we collect for the members register.

Member benefits

  • A $400 discount to our conference on 29-30th July (Courage to Deliver, see here)

  • Preferential in-person access to our free events.

GOVIS is exploring options for a members-only standards library, containing a range of ISO standards relevant to the work of our members. We are also exploring options for a members-only online discussion platform.

Apply for membership

To apply for membership, please complete the GOVIS membership application form here. Anyone may apply to be a member of GOVIS, provided they agree to the objectives of GOVIS (see here).

An individual membership for the 2026 calendar year costs $70 NZD (including GST), unless your employer has purchased a GOVIS subscription on your behalf (see below). You may apply for membership now and arrange payment later - but note that membership is not activated until payment has been received.

Purchase an agency subscription

Government agencies (defined in our constitution as "any public sector body") may subscribe to GOVIS on behalf of their employees. This covers the cost of membership for any employee of that agency. Note that:

  • Employees of an agency with a subscription to GOVIS must still apply as members to claim any membership benefits (as above)

  • This option is not available to non-public sector organisations, and does not cover contractors

An agency subscription for the 2026 calendar year costs $400 NZD (including GST). Please contact GOVIS here to make arrangements for this: members@govis.org.nz

Does my agency already have a GOVIS subscription?

Below are the government agencies that supported GOVIS in 2025. We are currently contacting these organisations to offer them agency subscriptions, under our new constitution. We will update this list as we receive new agency subscriptions. Please allow for up to two weeks for updates to be posted, as your agency's finance department and GOVIS both have processes that take time to undertake.

GOVIS membership is changing in 2026

Why the need for change?

At our 2025 AGM, GOVIS passed a new constitution (see here) to bring us in line with the requirements of the Incorporated Societies Act 2022. Under the Act and our new constitution, we are now required to maintain a register of individual GOVIS members. This is a big change for us as GOVIS had previously allowed government agencies to register as member organisations, with all their employees effectively counting as individual employees (non-public service employees were able to request individual 'honorary membership' on a case-by-case basis).

What is changing?

Instead of offering membership at the agency level, GOVIS now offers membership at the individual level only. All members will be recorded in a register. Anyone (including non-public servants) can apply to be a member of GOVIS, provided they agree to the objectives of GOVIS (see here) and pay for their annual membership.

Government agencies (defined in our constitution as "any public sector body") may also subscribe to GOVIS on behalf of their employees. This allows these agencies to continue providing their employees with the benefits of GOVIS membership, with the only difference being that their employees must now also apply as members.

Note that our fees in 2026 are much the same as they were in 2025, except we now express them as GST inclusive and have rounded them up to the nearest even figure. Calendar year

What information will GOVIS be collecting about members, and how will GOVIS use this information?

GOVIS will collect the names, contact emails, roles, and employer names of anyone who applies to be a member of GOVIS.

GOVIS will use information in the members register to:

  • Plan GOVIS events and initiatives.

  • Contact members, for example regarding GOVIS events and initiatives, or subscription renewal.

  • Inform agency representatives of who in their agency is already a member of GOVIS.

GOVIS will also provide the register to the Registrar of Incorporated Societies, if they request this.

GOVIS will not put this information to any purpose that goes beyond the scope of GOVIS’s activities (as defined in the GOVIS constitution), including the commercial benefit of supplier organisations or the personal benefit of GOVIS members.

How will GOVIS keep the members register secure?

Access to the members register will be limited to the current GOVIS committee (as elected at the latest AGM). It will be stored in GOVIS’s Microsoft 365 tenancy (on SharePoint and Microsoft Forms). GOVIS will not provide access to the register to any GOVIS members who are not on the committee, or to any other third party (e.g. supplier organisations).
