Privacy myths and misunderstandings, January 29 2009
BOTPA (because of the Privacy Act) is often heard as a good reason not to do things - things that feel like common sense and improved service. But is the Act really the innovation-killer some might believe?

Katrine Evans from the Office of the Privacy Commission, (Assistant Commissioner Legal and Comms) shed light on the myths and realities of NZ privacy legislation.

Multi-agency record keeping, January 22, 2009
This was an EDRMS interest group and GOVIS joint event. The problem we examined was ensuring accountability for maintaining the record of government when operating in complex, joined up ways to help deliver the best public services to New Zealanders. Records and IT need to make it work as simply as possible for staff and other users.

Download the bullet points from the discussion groups (PDF 25 KB or MS Word 80 KB) exploring the issues and possible solutions, including a strategic approach around common EDRMS open standards and meta-data.

Derek Gill, Bill Ryan and Elizabeth Eppel, 16 October 2008
Researchers from the Institute of Policy Studies, Victoria University spoke about the public sector working collaboratively to achieve extraordinary results in seemingly commonsense, everyday ways. Joined-up government is not about throwing out everything we currently know and do. It's about adding new ways of working so that better outcomes for Kiwis can be achieved more often and in a wider range of circumstances.

Ros Coote has compiled some notes from this Powerpoint-free presentation - your choice of MS Word (46 KB) or Adobe PDF (34 KB). Both versions include a link to the Institute of Policy Studies material.
Video of the event can be viewed on the GOVIS Rich Media website.
