The Buzzies are peer recognition awards by GOVIS members to their colleagues. Perhaps not surprisingly, it's quite a task to get nominations.

It's not that there aren't great stories to tell. Perhaps it's more that Kiwi reticence about blowing one's own trumpet, that shy wisdom accumulated from witnessing the national blood-sport known as tall poppy pruning, and the understandable reluctance of public servants to court public exposure.

This year, the efforts of our awards co-ordinator, Nick Miller, and our nominee interviewer and copy-writer, Jillian Armstrong, have been rewarded with the gems you'll find below.

GOVIS congratulates all the nominees.

Your courage and willingness to share these stories cast ICT and E-Government in a more natural light - not the rose tints of the optimists, nor the dark shades of the doom-sayers - just that bright, intense, revealing UV laden light we know in these parts.

E-Government Award

A fifth Buzzy is awarded each year by the E-Government Unit to the agency they feel has made the greatest contribution to E-Government in the previous 12 months.

This year, the winner is the Department of Labour for the contribution of their subject area portal code, first used in their Worksite portal and then provided to other agencies, and for their contribution to the Connecting Communities initiative through the Community Employment Group, a tangible "walk the talk" towards citizen enablement and participation in E-government.

Acknowledgements

GOVIS expresses it's thanks and appreciation to all nominees, judges, organisers, and their agency employers. Without the willing contribution of your time and energy, the Buzzies could not happen. Thanks to your efforts we have achieved an event to be proud of.
